Original educational work
Utility Bill Lab publishes original calculators and guides for understanding household utility bills. The site is not a utility, regulator, government agency, engineering firm or financial adviser, and it does not issue official bill determinations.
Sources and jurisdiction
We prioritize primary U.S. government sources for national and state reference data. State electricity values are dated residential averages, not a tariff offered to every customer. Water, sewer, gas, taxes, riders, assistance programs and rebates can vary by utility, municipality, state, customer class and effective date. Formulas and estimates
Calculator formulas, editable inputs and material limitations are shown. Annualized values repeat the current inputs over a longer period; they are not forecasts or guaranteed savings. We do not present a program benefit, eligibility rule or local rate as current unless its jurisdiction and effective date are confirmed by an official source.
Corrections and review
We review dated datasets when their publishers release an update and correct material errors when identified. If an upstream source is ambiguous, changes format or carries a correction notice, we preserve the last documented reference and tell visitors to enter their current local rate.
Advertising and affiliate independence
Advertising and any future affiliate relationships do not determine formulas, source selection or editorial conclusions. Paid or commission-bearing links must be clearly identified and separated from calculator results.
